EDAD 536 day 2

 Educational Technology chapter I discussion...

Ethics and online schooling; how are online schools being held accountable for meeting the educational needs of their students? Is a "cash cow"  mentality driving admissions of students that are not academically prepared for the content that they are asked to learned?

It's not necessarily that we do not have enough money to support our schools; it's how we are choosing to spend the money that we do have.

For profit, not for profit, and also for benefit companies.

Videos

A powerful medium for communicating ideas: setting, imaging, music, storytelling,
The Terra Nova HS closure hoax...the power of the story.

My First Video

Reflections
Creating the video has been an assume experience. Just taking a random series of video clips shot by Todd, organizing them into a "thoughtful" sequence and downloading some random music  and viola! a story is created. I began thinking about so many applications that can be found for this in the school setting and the creation of personalized PD or heartfelt assemblies where the story of your school can be shared with your community.

  1. Great thoughts on today, Eric. Imagine a large repository of self-made videos addressing specific and targeted issues for a teacher, principal or supt to learn from. Powerful stuff...

  2. I loved watching your excite and discoveries during the process of making the video. It reminded me of how our students feel at times. Think about the end product that students would create to share their voice and the audience they could reach. AMAZING!

  3. Voila! is good way to describe it!
Who da' thunk it could be so easy, huh?
I was thinking of the possibilities with the MS student council. Maybe little videos that show the right way, wrong way, then the right way again for behavior in common areas. The staff could be the actors for the "wrong way" behaviors!

  4. Great ideas for video usage, Eric! Movies show everyone that you are invested and create an emotional connection. You are an awesome guy! I have enjoyed getting to know you and am glad that we've become friends. I find your willingness to listen and strength of character very inspiring.
